Oh Henry!

Continuing with the theme of candy bars that not many people buy we have:

I’m not sure what to make of the name “Oh Henry!” but it apparently comes from the man who invented it, Tom Henry. It’s a good way to get your name out there I suppose. There are other theories out there, but I’ll just accept this one as the truth. Anyway, the wrapper looks very old-timey like a Mr. Goodbar. Candy bars like this seem like they would have been advertised in my brother’s old comic book collection, and they probably were. The description is nothing special, chocolate, fudge, caramel, and peanuts, which you can get with Snickers.

A cross section of an Oh Henry! bar. They come in two mini-bars

How would I rate an Oh Henry!? Well, the flavors are okay, there’s nothing special about them. The texture of the caramel is a bit rubbery and gives it a bouncy feel. The peanuts are just a smidge better than Baby Ruth peanuts. Overall, it’s an okay candy bar, but it’s not as good as the big names like Snickers. Try it for the texture, if nothing else.

Oh Henry!: 7/10

Snicker Cruncher

With 2010 coming to an end, one would assume that I would make a post acknowledging holiday candies. Well, one would be wrong because holiday candies are often the candies you can find year-round with nicer packaging. Of course, there are some candies, such as peppermint bark, which are exclusive to this season. However, I have plenty of the stuff to write about it at another time, so relax. The next item is going to be something you won't be able to find at most convenience stores:

Snickers again? Come on! Well, I'm going to write about this kind of Snickers because I'm not sure where else to get it besides a random rest stop shop in Millbrae. Also it had funny writing on it, so that's always interesting. And look at those peanuts and crispy rice pieces flying at you. Or are they flying into the bar? I'm not sure.

This candy bar reminded me very much of a Kudos bar. I'm assuming that they replaced the nougat with the crispy rice pieces. I'm not sure if anyone remember Kudos bars, but they were sort of like chocolate bar with crispy rice in the middle, but much chewier and less crispier than one would think. This bar wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the other variations of Snickers. I suppose I like the combination of the peanuts, caramel, and nougat.

Peanut Madness: The End?

Update: I was able to convince my students to try the European candy, and they actually liked it. Awesome!

I believe that this may be the last installment of Peanut Madness, seeing as how I don't THINK that there are any more candy bars like the ones that were mentioned. To end Peanut Madness, I'm going to end it with what I think is the best of the peanut covered candy bars:

When I was younger I hated this candy bar. I think I didn't like it because it wasn't coated in chocolate and it was different from other candy bars. It was salty and sweet, as opposed to other candy bars that were just sweet. However, as I grew up, I came to like this candy bar more and more

As you can see this is peanut covered, but the caramel is visible as well

As mentioned above, what makes this candy bar unique is the fact that it is both salty and sweet. Something else that sets this candy bar from the other candy bars is that its texture isn't brittle; it crunchy when you first bite in, but then it becomes chewy as you get to the caramel. There aren't as many peanuts on this candy bar, as opposed to the previous candy bars I wrote about before, which makes this candy bar much easier on the mouth. All in all, I think I can easily say that Pay Day is the king of peanut coated candy bars.

I think that's all for Peanut Madness, unless I'm able to find another candy bar coated in peanuts. Those who are allergic to peanuts can breathe a sigh of relief now.
